Spicy Food News: Tabasco Partners with Absolut Vodka, Sargento Adds Spicy Cheese, and More
Tabasco and Absolut Are Pouring Some Spicy Vodka
Tabasco is partnering with Absolut to brings us a spicy new vodka. Here are the details from the press release:
Crafted by fusing ABSOLUT with a unique and completely natural essence created from the fermented, aged red pepper mash used to make TABASCO® Sauce, ABSOLUT® TABASCO™ delivers the distinctive heat and aroma of the world’s most famous pepper sauce in America’s #1 spirit brand, as voted by consumers. The resulting vodka has no added sugar and, like ABSOLUT original, is gluten-free but now with just the right amount of spice.
This could certainly be used to spice up a Bloody Mary or Michelada along with any number of other cocktails. There is no indication that it is a limited time item, so it should stick around as long as the sales are good.

Trader Joe’s Fuses Italian and Korean with Its New Pasta

This national grocery chain has a new pasta hitting the frozen section, and it promises to deliver a kick. Here is the info from their website:
As Korean foods continue to grow in popularity, our buyers continue searching for creative ways to bring those characteristically spicy, sweet, and savory flavors—often with a fermented flair—into more TJ’s products. The latest achievement on this culinary fusion adventure is Trader Joe’s Spicy Alfredo Fusilloni Pasta. Our supplier in Italy starts with Fusilloni (giant fusilli) made of durum wheat semolina that’s cooked to an ideal al dente texture. For the fusion part, they’ve crafted a Spicy Alfredo sauce that mixes traditional cream, grated cheese, and butter with gochujang (fermented red chili paste).
The sauce is frozen into little “pucks” and packed right in with the Fusilloni. All you have to do is heat everything together in the microwave or on the stovetop, and you’ll be rewarded with a mouthwatering melding of flavors—rich, ultra-creamy Alfredo with a spicy, fermented kick in every big-spiral bite.
It sells for $4.79 a bag (prices will vary by region), and products like these tend to come and go at TJ’s, so you will probably want to pay a visit soon if you have an interest in picking it up.
