Spicy Food News: KFC Adds a New Spicy Wrap, Whataburger Adds Wings, and More

KFC Combines Two Fast Food Favorites and Kicks Them Up

As we head into the new year, KFC is expanding its line of wraps with another one that will bring some burn. That chicken fryer already had the Spicy Slaw Wrap and the Mac & Cheese Wrap, and now they are combining those together into the Spicy Mac & Cheese Wrap. This new addition to the lineup has an Extra Crispy Chicken Tender, spicy sauce, Mac & Cheese, and three-cheese blend wrapped up in a soft flour tortilla. Also joining the lineup is the Honey BBQ KFC Wrap and they are currently all prices at three bucks in my area. They are also running a 2 for $5 special and if you have their app you can get one for free with a purchase of $1. Both of the new wraps are on the menu now, but don’t be surprised if they head back to Limited-Time-Only-Ville at some point in the future (even though all the ingredients are regular items in their kitchen).

Whataburger Adds Whatawings

Wings are a hot item these days (yes, the pun was intended) and burger slinger Whataburger has apparently decided to fly along with that trend. They have added “Whatawings” to the menu (almost as bad of a name as their fish sandwich Whatacatch) with several varieties available. These are breaded and boneless chicken pieces and those looking for some spice will likely order the Buffalo or Sweet & Spicy flavors. Other flavors available are Honey BBQ, Honey Butter, and Dry. (It doesn’t look like they give you the option to have multiple sauces in an order, but you can try asking). An order of nine wings will set you back $8.99 in my area or you can get a combo with medium fries and a medium drink for $11.99. These are billed as a “limited time offer”, so try them soon if you want to see how well Whataburger does wings.

3-Cheese Chicken Flatbread Melt Headed to Taco Bell

In Taco Bell’s never-ending quest to establish a beachhead in the Chicken Sandwich Wars, that Mexican-inspired chain is adding a new poultry sandwich-like time. The 3-Cheese Chicken Flatbread Melt will be hitting menus nationwide on January 11th. That features a soft flatbread that is filled with marinated and grilled all-white meat chicken, creamy Chipotle sauce, and a melted 3-cheese blend. It has a suggested retail price of $2.29 which puts it on the more affordable side. If the Nacho Cheese Fries are still available when it comes out, those would certainly pair well with the new offering. Otherwise, the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes offer a good substitute. The 3-Cheese Chicken Flatbread Melt is around for the dreaded limited-time-only, and with Taco Bell that usually means it disappears pretty quickly. So try one of these soon if they appeal to your chicken cravings.
