A couple of spicy options are getting added to menus, and both of them involve chicken as we continue our current national obsession with poultry. It does not look like either will be bringing too much heat, but they may be worth searching out.

Chick-fil-A is introducing a new spicy chicking sandwich, but this whole breast filet will not be going near the deep-fryer. The Grilled Spicy Deluxe is on the menu at most chains now and they give the following description on the website:

A boneless breast of chicken marinated with a blend of peppers and grilled for a tender and spicy taste, served on a toasted multigrain brioche bun with Colby-Jack cheese, Green Leaf lettuce and tomato. Served with Cilantro Lime Sauce.

Chick-fil-A’s original Spicy Chicken Sandwich (the one with the fried filet) is actually one of the better contenders in the Chicken Sandwich Wars and I would get it more often if that place was not always so darn busy. I will definitely be checking out the grilled version (pretending that I am being calorie-conscious to start off the year) and may pair up a review of that with their original spicy chicken (oh well, so much for keeping those cals down).

Over at the Golden Arches, the Spicy Chicken McNuggets will be making a return in February and the Mighty Hot Sauce will be back as well. Here’s what McDonald’s has to say about those on their website:

Spicy Chicken McNuggets: Breaded with a sizzling tempura coating made with both cayenne and chili peppers, Spicy Chicken McNuggets pack plenty of flavor and spice into each bite.

Mighty Hot Sauce: Our new Mighty Hot Sauce dialed up the spice last Fall, boasting a powerful blend of crushed red pepper and cayenne peppers, all balanced with savory garlic and a hint of sweetness. This is both McDonald’s hottest available dipping sauce and our first new sauce since 2017.

I am no fan of Chicken McNuggets and never really have been (they didn’t exist when I was a kid), so I’m not certain if I will be giving the spicy version a try. But I am curious about the Mighty Hot Sauce, so keep an eye out for a review of that. Maybe I will get the spicy nuggets with it or maybe I will just dip some fries in the sauce.

The McDonald’s offering will be headed back to limited-time-only-ville pretty soon, but I believe that the Chick-fil-A Grilled Chicken Deluxe is slated to stick around for a while.
