Pringles has been trying to prop up spicy offerings with its potato crisps for years now, and it is amping up its Scorchin’ line with a collaboration with the Hot Ones web series. That show involves interviews with celebrities while they are eating spicy food, usually chicken wings. Following are the three flavors that will be released starting in June based on their sauces:
The Classic Hot Sauce: A traditional hot sauce flavor with an extra spicy kick.
Los Calientes Rojo: A combination of sweet applewood-smoked red jalapenos and tangy habanero.
Los Calientes Verde: Smoky serrano and habanero chili peppers combined with sweet fruit and tart tomatillo.
There will also be a very limited edition release using the Last Dab sauce which is the spiciest one featured on the show and you can win by participating online at hotones.pringles.com. The prior Pringles Scorchin’ chips that I tried were decent but fell short of really living up to their billing (more on that here). I will be searching out the new ones and will report back once I have sampled them.
Yet another chain is throwing its hat into the Chicken Sandwich Wars and you have to wonder what took this one so long. Wingstop is going to be frying up some breast filets (having already done quite well with wings and thighs) and putting those between a buttery toasted bun with your choice of their wing sauces (Atomic for me please). They are currently testing those in Columbus, OH, Fresno, CA, Las Vegas, NV, and Orlando, FL. My guess is that they will prove to be hit unless we have reached the peak of the chicken sandwich boom (and I don’t think we have) and these should be released nationally before too long.
