The Enchirito Is Returning to Taco Bell, But Only for a Limited Time

We have a winner, and it’s a classic!

Last week, Taco Bell asked people to vote for the return of one of two discontinued items: the Double-Decker Taco or the Enchirito. The votes have been tallied and the latter (which was the one I voted for) will be returning to the menu.

The Enchirito is a classic that first appeared on the Bell’s menu in 1970. It is a beef and bean burrito covered in a red enchilada sauce and topped with shredded cheese (the original also had sliced black olives, but it looks like those will not be included in the revival). The Enchirito was a staple on the Taco Bell menu for many years, but then it bounced on and off before disappearing completely about ten years ago. It is not particularly spicy (like most Taco Bell items), but the enchilada sauce gives it some extra zing and it has always been one of my favorites (just add some Fire or Diablo sauce to kick it up).

But as you would expect from the Bell, this is returning for only a limited time. I’m not sure what marketing “genius” is whispering in the ears of the corporate execs, but this here-now-gone-again routine is getting rather tiring. Maybe if the Enchirito proves popular enough it will get elevated to the regular menu, but don’t count on it. At best, we can hope for it to at least get the regular rotation like the Nacho Fries and Naked Chicken Chalupa. It will return on November 17th and will be gone again by the end of the month. Plan accordingly and get yours early because they could run out of supplies like they did with the Mexican Pizza (which is back in stores at the moment).

Now, if we can only get them to bring back the Spicy Tostado as well . . .
