Spicy Food News: Grilled Cheese Nacho Fries Are Headed to Taco Bell, Wingstop Adds Maple Sriracha, and More

Taco Bell Kicks Up Its Nacho Fries Again

Taco Bell is offering a new variation on its popular Nacho Fries by giving them a grilled cheese twist and a little kick of smokey heat. These include a three-cheese blend, fries, nacho cheese, choice of meat, and creamy chipotle sauce. After assembling the fries, they are grilled up and then served hot and ready to go. These will be available on November 16th and should stick around as long as the Nacho Fries are still in stores because all the other ingredients are regular items. But this is Taco Bell, and you never know when things will disappear, so plan a trip to the drive thru as soon as they are available if you want to give them a try.

Wingstop Adds Some Sweet Heat with Maple Sriracha

Wingstop is adding one more sauce to its list and that combines two popular flavors to bring some sweet with the heat. The website gives the following description for the new Maple Sriracha Sauce: “sweet maple meets fiery sriracha for the perfect flavor fusion”. They rate its heat level at three on a scale that goes up to five, and that is the same level as their Original Hot and Louisiana Rub (the latter is one of my favorites). They are billing this one as a limited-time-only option, so you may want to check it out soon. It is available in Wingstop locations across the country now.

99-cent Fritos Chili Cheese Jr. Wrap Returns to Sonic

This is not necessarily a spicy item, but those of us who like the heat usually enjoy some good chili. And Sonic cooks up some pretty good chili for a fast food joint. Following is the description from the website: “Crunchy FRITOS®, warm chili and melty shredded cheddar cheese wrapped up in a warm tortilla”. And best of all, it is only ninety-nine cents. So, one of these (and some hot sauce to kick it up) along with some tater tots with cheese will set you back less than five bucks and really fill you up!

Huy Fong Sriracha Is Slowly Making it Back to the Shelves

Huy Fong products have been in short supply (or not available at all) due to a pepper shortage from their distributors caused by drought. The bottles of Sriracha have been slowly working their way back to the shelves, but their Chili Garlic Sauce and Sambal Olek have been harder to find. And even though Sriracha is back (though often subjected to purchase limitations), there is no guarantee it will stick around. The chili pepper shortage is still a problem, so the company has not returned to full capacity for its sauce production yet. If you find a bottle, be sure to grab it. And if you are looking for substitutes, I have some suggestions here.
