Spicy Food News: Heatonist Hot Sauces Are Headed to Stores, Dog Haus Kicks Things Up with Colorado Green Chilis, and More

Watch for the Heatonist Sauce from Hot Ones on the Store Shelves

If you have been wanting to try the Heatonist hot sauces featured on the popular Hot Ones YouTube show and have not gotten around to ordering them online (and you missed the Party Pack at Sam’s this last holiday season), you will soon have an opportunity to buy them in the stores.  The chains that will be carrying the sauces are Kroger, Harris Teeter, Publix, The Fresh Market, Giant Martins, Hannaford, World Market, Meijer, and Whole Foods.  They have not announced yet which specific sauces will be available, but I would expect the Classic Hot Sauce, Los Caliente Verde, and Los Caliente Rojo to be among them, and possibly The Last Dab Apollo Sauce.  A release date has not been announced that I have seen, but I expect them to show up in the next few months.

Dog Haus Will Spice Things Up This Summer with Colorado Green Chilis

The fast casual gourmet hot dog and burger chain Dog Haus will be kicking up its menu in May by featuring three dishes with green chilis from Colorado.  Here are the three new menu items:

Colorado Green Chili Sausage: Smoked green chili, jack cheese and pork sausage with Colorado Green Chili sauce, corn tortilla strips, cotija cheese and scallions; served on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls.

Colorado Green Chili Burrito: Smoked green chili, jack cheese and pork sausage, three sunny-side-up eggs, Colorado Green Chili sauce, white American and cotija cheeses, corn tortilla strips and scallions in an expertly rolled and toasted flour tortilla.

Colorado Green Chili Queso Hot Fries: Heavily seasoned hot fries dusted with cotija cheese and served with Colorado Green Chili queso.

These are around for a limited time and will disappear from menus at the end of May.  Dog Haus is an expanding chain that has locations across the country (mostly in the Western and Southern states), and several stores also offer a Biergarten.  You can check for a location near you on their website.

Velveeta Offers Ready-Made Queso

People have been using Velveeta to make Chili con Queso for many years (allegedly buying 125 million pounds of the stuff each year), so now the company is taking the next logical step by releasing ready-made queso in jars to the store shelves.  Three varieties will be included in the initial release: Queso Con Salsa, Queso Blanco, and Jalapeño.  These should be available wherever Velveeta is sold and there is no indication that these are limited-time-only products.  In addition, Velveeta will be adding a Buffalo flavor to its Shells & Cheese line.

Church’s Adds New Signature Hot Sauce and Cheddapeno Biscuits

Church’s Texas Chicken has added its New Signature Hot Sauce to the condiments it has available and it was created in collaboration with chefs Bobby McFadden and Aurea de Guzman.  Following is the description from the website:

A smooth blend of red chili peppers, red bell peppers, and a hint of habanero and roasted garlic. Created just for Church’s® and perfect for dipping everything from crispy tenders to fried okra!

In addition, the chain is kicking up its beloved biscuits by adding cheddar cheese and jalapenos to the new Cheddapeno version of that fan-favorite item.  There is no indication that these are limited-time-only items, and they are available in stores now.  You can check for a location near you on their website.

Carl’s Jr. Brings Back the El Diablo Burger

After much demand, the fast food burger chain Carl’s Jr. is bringing back its El Diablo Burger for the Summer.  Following is the description from their website:

The El Diablo Burger features a potato bun, charbroiled beef, a special fiery habanero sauce, bacon, Jalapeno POPPERS® bites, pepperjack cheese and jalapenos.  El Diablo menu items include the crave-worthy El Diablo Angus, El Diablo Burger, El Diablo Double, and the El Diablito Double Deal

It is available through August 15th and you can check for a location near you on their website.  (Sadly, all the Carl’s Jr. locations in San Antonio have shut down.)

Spicy Snack: Snyder’s Offers Hot Honey Pieces, Doritos Introduces Baja Fiery Mango

Two new spicy snacks are hitting the shelves, starting with Hot Honey Pieces from pretzel-maker Snyder’s.  This is yet another product adding hot honey, and that is paired with chili pepper spices to really kick things up.  They are around for the dreaded limited time only, so keep an eye out for them.  Meanwhile, Doritos is back to pairing fruit with chili peppers (they put out a Spicy Pinapple version last year) with its Baja Fiery Mango flavor.  That one features a sweet, tangy, and spicy mango habanero flavor and it will also only be on shelves for a limited time.
