Spicy Food News: KFC Adds Three New Sauces, Taco Bell Tests Return of Classic Menu Items, and More

KFC Adds Mores Sauces to Its Lineup

Chicken slinger KFC is apparently doing well with its saucy nuggets, and it is adding three more spicy sauces to its lineup. Following is the description of each from the press release:

NEW Chipotle Ranch – A bold flavor with a mildly spicy and smoky blend of chipotle peppers and creamy ranch. Into a classic with a twist? This one’s for you.

NEW Mango Habanero – A mashup of fruity mango, fiery habanero peppers and other savory flavors creates the perfectly balanced swicy sauce. Swicy lovers will love this sauce.

NEW Honey Garlic – A sauce featuring the classic taste of honey and garlic combined with a kick of heat for a blast of flavor. If you’re into layered flavor, you’ll love this sauce.

“Swicy” appears to be a word they created which is a combination of sweet and spicy. The sauces hit the stores on August 12th and will be around for the dreaded limited-time-only, so you will want to try them sooner rather than later if they tempt your tastebuds.

Taco Bell Is Testing a Return of These Classics

This Mexican-inspired chain is testing the return of five classic items according to Food & Wine, one from every decade starting with the 60s and going to the 00s.  Here are the selections it is looking to bring back:

Tostada (1960s): This original menu item features a crispy corn tostada shell topped with refried beans, a “tangy” red sauce, lettuce, and cheese.

Green Burrito (1970s): This retro-burrito is filled with refried beans, crunchy onions, and shredded cheddar — plus a green sauce made from green chiles, tomatillos, and jalapeños.

Meximelt (1980s): This cross between a quesadilla and a taco has melted cheddar, Monterey jack, and mozzarella with ground beef and pico de gallo, all wrapped up in a soft tortilla.

Beef Gordita Supreme (1990s): The first of the Bell’s Gordita selections, this offers a flatbread filled with seasoned beef, a three-cheese blend, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, and diced tomatoes.

Caramel Apple Empanada (2000s): This fan-favorite dessert item is filled with apple pieces and a creamy caramel-flavored filling.

The throwback menu is currently being tested at select locations in California with plans to roll it out nationwide if it proves successful.
