Spicy Food News: Red Robin Adds a New Spicy Burger, Monster Tacos Are Back at Jack in the Box, and More

Jalapeño Heatwave Hits Red Robin

This casual sit-down chain known for its gourmet burgers and endless fries is introducing a new spicy menu for the Fall months, and that is headlined by the Jalapeño Heatwave Burger. Following is the description from the press release:

This spicy delight presents a slow burn that builds with each bite, featuring grilled jalapeño, pepper-jack cheese, caramelized onion, green chili aioli, and freshly smashed avocado with red pepper flakes, topped with crispy fried jalapeño coins for a satisfying crunch.

In addition to that, they will be adding the ultra-spicy Scorpion sauce used on their Scorpion Burger to their wings. The burger and the wings will only be around for the dreaded limited-time-only, but they should remain on the menu for a few months at least.  You can check for a location near you at their website.

Monster Tacos Return to Jack in the Box with a Spooky New Version

The Halloween season is approaching and Jack in the Box regularly brings back its Monster Tacos this time of year (they used to be permanent menu items until a few years ago).  These are just larger versions of that chain’s regular taco (a love-it-or-hate-it fast food classic, more on that here), and they are currently on special at two for three bucks.  In addition, they have added the Mummy Wrapped Monster Taco for the spooky season this year.  Here is the description from their website:

A monster-sized crispy taco, topped with melty American cheese, shredded lettuce & taco sauce, mummy wrapped in a cheesy bacon stuffed warm flour tortilla.

That sells for three dollars in my area, and these are around for a limited-time-only, so get to Jack in the Box before the end of October to satisfy your taco cravings.

50 Cent Boneless Wings Are Back at Applebee’s

Football season is here, so Applebee’s is offering a wing special to score points with fans.  Their 50 Cent boneless wings are back, and you can order those in quantities of 5, 10, or 20.  The sauces they have available are Classic Buffalo, Extra Hot Buffalo, Garlic Parmesan,  Honey Buffalo, Honey Pepper, and Sweet Asian Chili.  This special will probably stick around for a few months, and then they may offer a different variation of discounted wings (they do that on a regular basis) as it gets closer to the playoffs.  You can search for a location near you at their website.

Gochujang Gets Spammed

Or perhaps I should say that Spam is getting Gochujang.  The latest variation of that canned meat is getting kicked up with the spicy Korean sauce.  Here is the description of this gourmet spin on Spam from the website:

Pulling in familiar flavors from Korean-cuisine. SPAM® Gochujang Flavored is a complex taste that combines spicy, sweet, salty and umami notes to create a delicious Korean favorite. It’s the delicious SPAM® Classic you love with an approachable heat to add to traditional Korean dishes like kimbap and so-tteok so-tteok, or bring a perfect fusion experience to taco night.

This is exclusive to Costco and they are selling it in 8-packs of 12 oz cans. It will be available for the dreaded limited time only.

Lay’s Brings a Cajun Kick to Their Kettle-Cooked Chips

Lay’s has apparently slipped a new variety of kettle-cooked chips on shelves with its Cajun Spice flavor. These are showing up in Kroger and 7-Eleven and the are available to purchase online at the Walmart and Target websites. There has been no press release for these that I have seen and they don’t even show up on the Lay’s website, but apparently they are a permanent addition to the line (as long as sales hold up). As a lover of Cajun Spice, I will certainly be seeking these out, so watch for an upcoming post on them.
