Quick Review: Jack in the Box Chili Crisp Curly Fries
Bottom Line: The Chili Crisp Curly Fries from Jack in the Box offer a decent twist on the classic side along with a kick of heat.
The curly fries at Jack in the Box are a fan-favorite, but I have to admit that I do not get them very often when I visit the chain. My side of choice is almost always the tacos which is actually lower in calories than the fries — two tacos at 340 cals vs. a medium order of curly fries at 430 cals. But Jack just introduced a new version of his twisty fries that adds chili crisp to the mix, and I decided to give those a try (with a side of tacos so that my meal was a side with a side!).
The curly fries are nice and crispy and well-seasoned. And I really like the ones that are in a long spiral as those tend to be particularly tasty. You can see the flecks of chili crisp on these fries and you get that same earthy, rich taste as you do from that Asian-style condiment. It doesn’t dominate, but you can really detect it in the background. And as you get further in the box, you get more of the taste (and heat) as the chili crisp oil appears to settle near the bottom. And that kicks these fries up as they come in above Mild on my scale and approaching Medium. I would certainly order these again and would not mind if they got added to the permanent menu.
An order of these is 450 calories which is just a little above the 430 cals of a medium order of regular curly fries. And they are selling for $3.50 which is a pretty good deal considering you can add two tacos through the app at 99 cents in my area and get a pretty filling meal. They are, of course, around for the dreaded limited-time-only, so you will want to make a trip to the drive thru soon if they sound tempting.
