Spicy Food News: Popeyes Adds Spicy Chicken Snack Wrap, McDonald’s Announces Return Date for Their Wrap, and More

Popeyes Targets McDonald’s Customers

McDonald’s discontinued its chicken snack wraps in 2016, saying they were too time-consuming to put together. They have been promising to bring them back the last few years, but in the meantime, Burger King and Jack in the Box have figured out how to work them into the lineup, and Popeyes has just released their own version. Starting this week, that chicken slinger has added three of the snack wraps to its menu, one of which brings a kick. Following is the description from the website:

Each one is packed with a Popeyes hand-breaded and battered chicken tender, crisp lettuce, shredded cheese, crunchy pickles and topped with your choice of a Classic, Spicy or Honey Mustard spread, all tucked into a soft, warm tortilla inspired by our famous biscuits.

The wrap with the spicy sauce will be the one that has some heat, and considering that Popeyes does a pretty darn good spicy chicken sandwich, these should be worth a a trip to the drive thru. These are on loan from Limited-Time-Only-Ville, though, so you will want to try them sooner rather than later.

McDonald’s Sets a Return Date for Its Snack Wraps

And speaking of the snack wraps from McDonald’s, that chain has finally announced a date for the long-awaiting return of those fan-favorite items. The snack wraps will be back on the menu July 10th with two options, one of which offers some heat. These come with a crispy chicken strip, shredded cheese, and lettuce wrapped in a tortilla. The spicy version includes the habanero Spicy Pepper Sauce currently available on the Spicy McCrispy sandwich. The other option is Ranch dressing. I can’t find a confirmation of whether these will be permanent menu items, but if McDonald’s sends them back to Limited-Time-Only-Ville again, they may have a revolt on their hands. Of course, this time around they will have some notable competition from Popeyes, Burger King, and Jack in the Box, so Ronald may have waited too long in returning the snack wraps to the lineup.

New Lay’s Flavors

There is no shortage of spicy snacks out there, and Lay’s is adding two more to the shelves. One is yet another variation on the Flamin’ Hot flavor with the new Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Cheddar BBQ. The other is yet another take on the dill pickle trend with Spicy Dill Pickle Ruffles. Both of these should be hitting shelves in the coming weeks if they are not already there, but they will be available for the dreaded limited time only.
