Spicy Snack Roundup: Well Market Spicy Sriracha Popcorn, Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch Doritos, and Buffalo Wing Cheez-its

Buffalo sauce and Sriracha are making their way into just about everything these days (even chocolate), including many of the snacks on the grocery aisles. Here is a round-up of three of those I tried recently:

Well Market Spicy Sriracha Popcorn: This popcorn has a sweetness to it followed by a touch of the flavor you expect from Sriracha. That is in the background, but it is definitely there along with a nice kick. It also has some saltiness, but that does not overpower. The popcorn is on the smaller side, but it is nice and fluffy and has a good crunch to it.

As for the heat, it barely seems to get to Mild at first, but the more you eat, the more it builds up. These end up getting close to Medium on my scale and they leave a nice tingle in your mouth. Well Market is the new brand from CVS (replacing Gold Emblem), and you can find these in the snack aisles of those pharmacies. They run $3.49 for a 5 oz bag in my area, and check that mile-long receipt you got from your last visit because there may be a coupon for the Well Market products.

Blazin’ Buffalo Ranch Doritos: They have an immediate hot sauce tang with a notable rush of Buffalo sauce flavor. The Ranch seasoning is noticeable, but in the background, adding some cooling effect to counter the heat. There is some sourness, but not like what you get from Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. A little more sweetness would have been good to counter the sour, but they are still rather tasty.

Heat comes up to a little below Medium on my scale, but they definitely have a kick. I got these in the large-size bag at Sam’s, and you can also find them in stores like Walmart, Target, and Kroger. Look for them on sale there, though, because the full retail of around six bucks is rather pricey.  And note that this is a limited time flavor.

Buffalo Wing Cheez-Its: This latest variation on Cheez-Its has the cheesiness you expect from these crackers, and that comes together quite well with the hot sauce tang from the Buffalo seasoning. It delivers a nice punch of flavor, and then there is some sweetness to balance that out, followed by some saltiness. These definitely cause some pucker and remind me of Buffalo sauce, and some may find that rather intense. But I definitely enjoyed it.

The heat gets a little bit above Mild on my scale and leaves a tingle in your mouth. These don’t have quite the burn of the Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its, but they still deliver a nice kick. You can find these in most stores where they sell the Cheez-It brand, and they run around four bucks a box in my area.
