Spicy Food News: Subway Drizzles on Hot Honey, Taco Bell Brings Back the Naked Chicken Chalupa, Beefy Crunch Burrito, and More
Subway Returns to Swicy
This national sandwich chain experimented with hot honey last year, and that proved quite popular. Now they are bringing it back with three “swicy” (sweet and spicy) menu items. Following is the rundown from the press release:
Doritos® Hot Honey Nachos: Each order starts with crispy Doritos Nacho Cheese Flavored Tortilla Chips topped with Monterey cheddar, veggies and Subway’s signature Hot Honey for the perfect mix of cheesy crunch, fresh flavor, savory heat, and a touch of sweetness. Guests can choose from three pre-set builds – Chicken, Steak, or Cheese – with each version served exactly as crafted, so every bite delivers the right balance of toppings and flavor.
The collection also features two new subs, Hot Honey Italian and Hot Honey Turkey Italiano. The Hot Honey Italian comes toasted, loaded with salami, pepperoni, and Italian-style provolone, while the Hot Honey Turkey Italiano features the same build, just add turkey.
These are limited time selection, available August 20th through October 26th or while supplies last.
Taco Bell Brings Back more Fan Favorites with Its Latest Decades Menu

With The Bell’s most recent decades menu (now in stores), the chain returns to 2016 and brings back four fan-favorites including the long absent Naked Chicken Chalupa. Here is the rundown from the press release:
Naked Chicken Chalupa – $5.99: Taco Bell’s iconic crispy chicken shell, made with all-white-meat chicken marinated in bold Mexican-inspired spices, which was originally available only as a test in Kansas City in 2016, is back. The Crispy Chicken Shell features cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, diced tomatoes and creamy Avocado Ranch Sauce. The Naked Chicken Chalupa remains one of the most requested mid-2010s returns and represents the fearless innovation that defined the era.
Beefy Crunch Burrito – $2.79: Featuring seasoned beef, Flamin’ Hot Fritos®, seasoned rice, reduced-fat sour cream and nacho cheese sauce, this cult favorite returns for the fans who never stopped campaigning for it, even inspiring a movement that has continued to rally around its various returns on menus.
Meximelt – $2.99: Seasoned beef, freshly prepared pico de gallo and a warm three-cheese blend wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. A core Taco Bell menu staple in 2016 and a standout from previous Decades returns, the Meximelt is back by popular demand.
Caramel Apple Empanada – $2.99: Warm apple pieces and caramel inside a golden crispy pastry, making this one of Taco Bell’s most beloved nostalgic sweet treats, and one fans continue to ask for year after year.
Prices will vary by region, and these are available for the dreaded limited time only, which can be very limited at Taco Bell sometimes.
