Quick Review: Steak and Poblano Rolled Quesadilla from Taco Bell
Bottom Line: The Steak and Poblano Rolled Quesadilla from Taco Bell offers a nice change of pace from their regular items, and it delivers a bit of heat.
Taco Bell has been putting out so many new items lately that, unless you frequent that establishment several times a week, it’s hard to keep up with them. But I did stop by just recently to try the Steak and Poblano Rolled Quesadilla, and I can tell you that it is worth a trip to the drive-thru. It offers fire-roasted poblano peppers, marinated steak, melty cheese, and a Spicy Ranch sauce wrapped in a tortilla that is crisped up on the griddle.
The one truly new ingredient here is the poblano peppers, and they make a nice addition to the Bell’s cadre of offerings. They are roasted nicely and deliver a good earthiness with that distinct green chili taste, kicking in with a bit of a bite. The steak is tender and flavorful and works well in the quesadilla. The cheese is plentiful and adds a nice sharpness. The sauce seems to get lost in the mix, but perhaps it contributes to the heat. The tortilla is browned just right and has a nice chew to it. Note that the peppers were on one side and the steak on the other (this is assembled more like a burrito than a quesadilla), meaning you have to take two bites to get both together. But despite this one construction nitpick, this new offering is pretty darn good.
The heat for this quesadilla goes a little above Mild on my scale, but it is a good sort of burn that leaves a tingle in your mouth. You can add some Fire or Diablo sauce to kick things up, but those tend to take over the flavors, and I would rather leave it as is.
Nutrition-wise, the Steak and Poblano Rolled Quesadilla totals up to 540 calories, which is not too bad for the drive-thru, but go easy with your add-ons because you know you can never get out of Taco Bell with just one item (a regular Crispy Taco is a good compliment at only 170 calories). The $5.49 price tag is a bit on the high side, but it is fairly hefty and quite filling. And this is another limited-time-only item, so you will want to try it soon because things disappear pretty quickly from the Bell’s menu. I’m hoping they might make this one permanent because it is a nice change of pace from their other offerings, but I am not counting on that.
