Spicy Food News: Whataburger Brings the Blaze, Hormel Returns Ghost Reaper Chili to the Shelves, and More

Whataburger Adds Bacon Blaze Burger

Whataburger is adding a blazing new burger to its lineup, but it will be around for the dreaded limited time only. The Bacon Blaze Jalapeño Double Burger is a hefty offering, and following is the description from the press release:

Double the beef and double the fun, the Bacon Blaze Jalapeño Double is two 100% beef patties layered in Whataburger’s Jalapeño Ranch and Jalapeño Cream Cheese, topped with crispy, smoky bacon, aged cheddar and jalapeño slices to add a liiiittle bit of spice – all hugged by two toasty 5-inch buns.

This will be available in stores starting October 1st, but you’ll want to pay a visit soon because it won’t be sticking around for long.

Carl’s Jr. Offers The Ghost for Those What Are Ghosted

Another place that’s kicking up its burgers is Carl’s Jr. with The Ghost. Here is the description of that spooky new offering:

The Big Angus Ghost is 1/3 lb of charbroiled Angus beef, face-melting ghost pepper cheese, soul-scorching sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, fresh tomato, onion, and lettuce on a soft toasted bun.

This will only be around until November 6th, and you have a chance to get one free if you share a story about getting ghosted. More on that here.

Ghost Reaper Chili Is Back from Hormel

Chili maker Hormel is heating things up as we head into the Fall months by bringing back the Ghost Reaper World’s Hottest Chili with Beans. Here is the description of that from the press release.

This fiery, seasonal-favorite combines classic chili with beans infused with two of the world’s hottest peppers — ghost and Carolina — delivering an intensely satisfying experience unlike any other.

How hot is it? With the hottest ghost and Carolina peppers combining for over 3 million Scoville Heat Units, this chili provides a fiery kick, making it the hottest chili in the brand’s history.

This is available at select Walmart stores for a suggested retail price of $2.98, and it will disappear from shelves probably by the end of the year.

Buldak Carbonara Dumplings and Sauce Sticks Make Their Way to the U.S.

Buldak, the Samyung brand of spicy noodles, is bringing two new items to the United States: Carbonara Dumplings and Sauce Sticks. Here are the descriptions for each of those.

Carbonara Dumplings: Each Buldak Carbonara Dumpling is filled with a delicious mix of vermicelli, cabbage, tofu, spring onion and, of course, Buldak Carbonara Hot Chicken Flavor sauce. Simply heat from frozen – steam, boil, fry, or heat via microwave – for a quick and ready-to-eat snack, appetizer or meal.

Sauce Sticks: Buldak Hot Sauce is now available in to-go packets. Buldak Sauce Sticks come in bundles of 50 individual sauce packets to add a splash of Buldak heat to any dish, anywhere.

These can be found in Asian stores with the Dumplings selling for a suggested $7.99 for a 24-ounce package and the Sauce Sticks retailing at $9.99 per 50-piece package.

Nacho Fries Are Back at Taco Bell

One of the most popular side orders from Taco Bell is returning again as Nacho Fries are back on the menu at that Mexican-inspired chain.  They are available in two sizes: regular for a suggested retail of $2.39 and large for $3.29.  The return of these generally also brings some form of loaded fries, but nothing has been announced on that yet.  I would expect to see something along those lines in the next month or so.

Quick Notes

Culver’s is adding hot honey to its fan-favorite fried cheese curds which brings “just a touch of sweet heat”.  These will be available for limited time only . . . Jack in the Box is adding Honey Garlic Sriracha sauce to its Crispy Chicken Wings lineup and they describe them as “the perfect blend of sweet and heat”.  These come in orders of six or twelve and are also available as a combo . . . Shipley’s donuts appears to be extending the availability of its egg end cheese kolaches and will adding bacon as an option.  These will be available until the end of the year and you can see my review of their Egg, Cheese, Sausage, and Jalapeno kolache here.
