Spicy Food News: Taco Bell Brings Back Five Favorites from the Past, Spicy McNuggets Return to McDonalds, and More

Taco Bell Is Bringing Back Five Fan Favorites

As previously announced, Taco Bell is bringing back five fan favorites from decades past starting this week. Each will sell for under three bucks, and following is the rundown from the press release:

1960s — Tostada: An O.G. menu item, which was one of six menu items released in 1962 at Taco Bell’s first walkup location in Southern California. It is comprised of a crispy corn tostada shell, layered with savory refried beans, tangy red sauce, crispy lettuce and shredded cheese, for $2.19.

1970s — Green Sauce Burrito: One of our “most-hacked” burritos and an item as edgy as the 1970s, this luscious burrito is filled with savory refried beans, crunchy onions, shredded cheddar cheese and green sauce made with green chili, tomatillos, jalapeño peppers and spices, available for $2.49.

1980s — Meximelt: One of our most requested comeback items and a member of every ’80s clique, the Meximelt is made with freshly prepared pico de gallo, a blend of three cheeses: mozzarella, cheddar and monterey jack melted with craveable seasoned beef in a tortilla, available for $2.99.

1990s — Gordita Supreme: The ultimate ’90s kid, the Beef Gordita Supreme returns for $2.99, featuring a pillowy warm flatbread filled with savory seasoned beef, cool reduced-fat sour cream, crisp lettuce, blend of three cheeses: mozzarella, cheddar & monterey jack and topped with diced tomatoes.

2000s — Caramel Apple Empanada: A star was born in Y2K as the Caramel Apple Empanada came on the scene with its golden-brown, crispy exterior filled with apple pieces and a flavorful creamy caramel filling, available for $2.99. This will be available starting on November 21st.

Note that these prices will vary by region and will certainly be higher in places like California and New York. And these will be available for the dreaded limited time only.

Spicy Chicken McNuggets Are Returning to McDonalds

The fan-favorite Spicy Chicken McNuggets are headed back to the Golden Arches, but you may not be able to find them at the drive thru near you. Starting on November 4th, these will be available in locations in Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Memphis, and New York, and the company has said that they could expand from there. So if you are in one of those cities, you can get them starting next week. If not, give it some time and perhaps they will show up on a menu near you. Fans are apparently lobbying the fast food chain to make these a permanent item, and perhaps that will happen after the latest test run.

Popeyes Is Giving Away a Free Chicken Sandwich

Through November 10th, you can score a free chicken sandwich at your local Popeyes by ordering through their app. You need to place an order for pickup or delivery for at least $10 worth of food (not hard these days considering that fast food is not necessarily cheap food any more), and they will give you a chicken sandwich for free. This includes the classic, spicy, and new Ghost Pepper sandwiches. You can read my review for the latter here.

Bob Evans Kicks Up Its Macaroni & Cheese

Bob Evans is giving its Macaroni & Cheese and spicy spin. Here is the description from the press release:

Inspired by the classic Tex-Mex dish, Bob Evans Queso Macaroni & Cheese features a rich queso flavor, hints of spice and fresh green and red peppers to bring bold, authentic flavors to any table or social gathering. The new variety is made with real cheese, milk and peppers and comes in a convenient heat-and-eat 20-ounce package.

This is available in the refrigerated section of stores like Kroger, Giant Eagle, Meijer, HEB, and more.
