Hot Sauce Finds: Mickey V’s I Love Taco Sauce (Hot)

Bottom Line: Mickey V’s I Love Taco Sauce delivers a superior taco sauce, and the Hot version definitely brings the burn.

My latest sauce from the Heat Hot Sauce Shop Subscription (more on that here) comes from Mickey V’s, a craft hot sauce maker just down the road from me near Austin. This is an award-winning company that makes small-batch sauces with quality ingredients, and they have even opened up a taco shop that allows them to highlight their products (and it is on my list of places to visit when I am in the area).

This is how they describe the I Love Taco Sauce: “This hot taco sauce was created for the earthy, the crunchy, and the adventurous.” It comes in Mild and Hot, and I got the latter of the two.

True to its name, it has that earthy taco sauce taste you expect, which comes from the combination of seasonings like garlic, onion, cumin, and paprika. It has some tomato tang and acidity along with just a touch of sweetness to balance that out. On its own, it is pretty intense and delivers some pucker, but not to the point that it goes overboard.

As for the heat, you get a kick right away, and it builds the more you eat it. I would put this one above Hot on my scale and headed toward Fiery. If you add too much of this to your taco, you better be ready for the burn!

On their website, they recommend using this sauce with pizza, burgers, wings, quesadillas, salads, hipsters (?), and, of course, tacos. I agree with all of those, and you could also add some while making up a batch of taco meat or a pot of chili to boost the flavor and the heat.

The sauce sells for $7.99 on their website, which is a good deal for a craft product like this.
