Spicy Food News: McDonalds Kicks Up Breakfast and Sonic Brings Back Crispy Tender Wraps
McDonalds Spices Up Its McMuffin Sandwiches
The Golden Arches is not necessarily known as a go-to place for spicy selections, but from time to they offer menu items with a kick like their Spicy Chicken McNuggets and their Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich. This summer the chain is adding a few more spicy items, and those are on the breakfast menu. Each of the McMuffins will be offered with the same spicy sauce that Ronald uses on his chicken sandwich. Here is the description from the website:
Spicy Egg McMuffin: It’s the Egg McMuffin you love with a fiery attitude. The McDonald’s Spicy Egg McMuffin recipe features a freshly cracked Grade A egg placed on a toasted English Muffin topped with real butter, lean Canadian bacon, melty American cheese and a spicy pepper sauce to liven up any morning routine.
This version is also available for the Sausage McMuffin and the Sausage and Egg McMuffin. The Egg McMuffin and the Sausage and Egg McMuffin sell for $4.49 in my area or $7.19 for the meal with hash browns and a small drink. The Sausage McMuffin is a bargain for $1.89 or $4.29 for the meal. This new breakfast menu is only available for a limited time, but since they will have the spicy sauce in the kitchen for the chicken sandwiches, you can just ask them to add that once the promotion is over. Expect a surcharge, though.
Sonic Joins the War of the Snack Wraps

With McDonald’s reintroducing their chicken snack wraps, Popeye’s and Taco Bell adding similar wraps to their menu, and Burger King and Jack in the Box already having them available, apparently Sonic has decided to get into the fray as well by bringing back their own version. That chain’s Crispy Tender Wraps include a white-meat chicken tender in a flour tortilla filled with lettuce, tomatoes and melty cheddar cheese along with either zesty baja sauce and honey chipotle aioli. The latter sauce is the one that offers some heat. These were first introduced last year and are making a return for the summer, and Sonic is promising to expand the line later this year.
