Bottom Line: This is one big and tasty Nashville Hot Sandwich that delivers a kick and will certainly fill you up.

Are you looking for a good Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich? Then you should go to the Dog Haus. No, not the one in your backyard where Rover seeks shade from the sun and hides from the rain. You need to find the nearest Dog Haus Biergarten where they serve gourmet burgers and dogs and some tasty chicken sammies along with a nice selection of beers on tap. I previously reviewed one of their gourmet hot dogs (the rather tasty Old Town Dog which you can read about here), and during a recent visit to the Dog Haus near me, I could not resist The Hot Chick.

Here is the description of sandwich from the menu: Nashville style fried or grilled chicken tenders, haus slaw, pickles, and secret sauce on a Hawaiian roll bun. What they don’t tell you on the menu is that this thing is big. I mean big as your head, unhinge your jaw big! This one could easily be shared, even if you are both hungry, especially if you throw in some fries or their tasty cheese tots.

It comes with two large chicken tenders and I went with the fried option on those. They were tender and juicy and well-cooked throughout. They have a good breading to meat ratio and the crust is plenty crunchy and nicely seasoned with a good peppery kick. The “secret” sauce (possibly a spicy thousand island) adds some sweetness as well as some tang. And the requisite pickles are there to amp up that tanginess. The slaw brings some sweetness while also offsetting the heat a bit. And while you might think the Hawaiian rolls would push the sweetness factor over the edge, they actually bring this sandwich together to tasty perfection.

WIth your first bite of the Hot Chick, you get some heat right away, but it does not seem to deliver too much of a burn initially. As you venture further into this monster of a sandwich, though, the heat builds to the point that it goes beyond Medium level. Chiliheads will have no problem with it, but the average mortal may be looking for something to cool their mouth down after several bites. (And how fortunate that they just so happen to have plenty of beers on tap that could serve that purpose!) This sandwich may not set off an inferno in your mouth, but it definitely delivers a good heat level to go along with the tasty ingredients packed inside.

As I mentioned, this sammy is big and I ate only half of it while at the Dog Haus (along with a nice helping of those cheese tots). I took the leftovers home and put them in the fridge and ate the second half of the sandwich the next day cold. That was really quite good and all the flavors held up with the chicken tender remaining quite crunchy and the bread not getting soggy from the slaw. So if you decide to set half of this sandwich aside, you will have a good second meal waiting for you. They don’t provide the nutrition information, but my guess is that the full sandwich is pushing past 1000 calories, so splitting this is certainly a good idea for your waist size.

The dogs, sausages, and burgers from Dog Haus are first-rate as well, and if you have a location near you, I highly recommend checking it out. You can read more about the restaurant in my previous review.
