Bottom Line: The Spicy Chicken Biscuit from Chick-Fil-A delivers an excellent breakfast sandwich with a bit of a kick.

More and more fast food joints have been adding spicy offerings to their breakfast menus and that’s not a bad thing for those of us who like a little bit of heat first thing in the morning. Biscuits have been particularly popular lately with McDonald’s putting out the Cheesy Jalapeno Sausage & Egg Sandwich and Whataburger offering the Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich. But Chick-Fil-A has had a spicy chicken biscuit on the menu since June 2023, and I decided it was time that I got around to giving it a try.

This sammy consists of a “breakfast portion” of their boneless breast of chicken, seasoned with a spicy blend of peppers and freshly breaded which is then stuffed inside of a one of their fresh-baked biscuits. That’s the whole package as there is no sauce (though you can get some on the side), no egg, no cheese, or anything else. But there’s nothing wrong with that as Chick-Fil-A proves it is still one of the leaders in the Chicken Sandwich Wars with this breakfast offering.

The piece of chicken is decent in size and has a good crust that has a bit of a crunch and is nicely seasoned. The meat inside is tender and the spicy seasoning seems to go all the way through to make this a superior piece of fried chicken (there’s a reason the drive thru at this place gets so backed up). The biscuit is plenty flaky and moist with a bit of sweetness, and grandma would be happy to say she made this. As mentioned, there is no sauce, but it does not need it. The meat is tender and juicy and the sandwich works fine with just the chicken and the biscuit. I wouldn’t object to a couple of pickles being added, but then that’s not very breakfasty.

There are definitely plenty of spices added to the chicken, but that does not equate to much heat. It has a well-seasoned taste, but it only gets to the Mild level on my scale at best. That’s okay for breakfast, though, because I don’t want to set my mouth on fire with my morning coffee. The flavor really comes through, though, with that little bit of heat kicking the sandwich up to the next level.

Calorie-wise, this comes in at 450 cals which is not too bad for breakfast, and it is a rather filling sandwich. But if you get the hash browns (which are sort of like tater tots), that adds another 270 cals and you will be wanting to look at that small salad for lunch. Still, if you need a filling breakfast to get you started, this is certainly a good way to go. The sandwich by itself runs $3.85 and the combo with hash browns and a drink is $7.09. That’s not terrible for the drive thru these days, especially if you stick with just the sandwich.

Unlike the other biscuit sammies that I have reviewed lately, Chick-Fil-A’s Spicy Chicken Biscuit is a permanent item on the menu. If you are a fan of their Spicy Chicken Sandwich, then you pretty much know what to expect from this except that you get a biscuit instead of the bread and no pickles. So if you are looking for something with a little bit of heat in the morning and happen to be passing by Chick-Fil-A, this is definitely worth considering. Just budget your time correctly because you know the place will be busy.
