Bottom Line: The Smokey Boy Pizzetta from Dos Sirenos Brewing delivers plenty of layers of flavor, and it has a nice kick as well.

I try to make it to the breweries in San Antonio and the surrounding area on a regular basis, and one of my favorite stopping points is Dos Sirenos, located just south of downtown. That place has been around for several years now, and they offer a nice selection of brews along with an expansive menu with plenty of tasty options. And they also have several spicy selections, as I have reported on this site in the past. On my latest visit, I tried the Smokey Boy Pizzetta, and that is a pie that should satisfy if you are looking for some heat.

Their Pizzettas are thin-crust pizzas about eight inches across, and the Smokey Boy comes with chipotle honey mustard, pulled pork, sharp cheddar, chipotle crema, pickled onion, and fresh jalapeños. It sells for fourteen bucks, and it works well as a shareable appetizer or a meal for one.

As mentioned above, it has a thin crust with a cracker-like texture along the edges. The interior part of the crust is softer because of the toppings, but not to the point that it is falling apart. The pulled pork is meaty with a nice saltiness and a touch of smoke. I thought it had a barbecue sauce instead of tomato sauce, but I guess it is actually the chipotle honey mustard. That delivered some sweetness and smokiness and worked quite well with the other ingredients.

I did not really detect the cheddar too much, but there was a bit of sharpness in the background that I assume came from the cheese. The pickled onions brought a nice vinegar pop with a little bit of sweetness as well. The chipotle crema delivered some creaminess and a little tang along with a touch of smoke. The diced jalapeños were plentiful, but surprisingly they did not stand out too much amidst the other ingredients. Still, this is a very tasty pizza with the many different parts all working together in a symphony of flavors.

Heat-wise, I would put this somewhere between Mild and Medium on my scale. It did not set my mouth on fire, but it had a nice kick that lingered for a while after each bite. If you want to amp it up more, you could ask for extra jalapeños or maybe ask that they sprinkle on some of their Habanero Jerk Seasoning (which is great on the Loaded Jerk Fries). I will probably opt for the latter the next time I stop by and order one of these.

They do not have the calorie info on the menu, but I ate the whole pie and did not feel stuffed afterward. I would guess that it comes in around 700 to 800 calories, which is not too bad for a personal pizza. If you are really hungry, you will probably want to order an appetizer or salad along with the Pizzetta.

Of course, since you are at a brewery, you have to get a beer to go along with your food, and Dos Sirenos has you covered there. I have tried all of their regular beers in the past, and this time around they had an Italian Pilsner that sounded rather intriguing. It is not like the flavorless mass-produced Pilsners you will find in many stores, as this beer is full-bodied and quite flavorful. It has a touch of citrus and a hint of hops, and I found it rather refreshing. It also went well with my pizza and should pair up nicely with other spicy items on the menu. I am hoping this one joins their lineup of regulars.

You really can’t go wrong at Dos Sirenos, as everything I have tried on the menu so far has been excellent, and all of their beers are first-rate as well. The Smokey Boy will definitely become a regular for me when I stop back by, but I am always looking for new items (and beers) as well, and this place has never disappointed.
